M6 closed in both directions between junctions 14 and 15

The M6 is currently closed in both directions due to crews carrying out emergency repairs on an unsafe bridge between Stoke-on-Trent and Stafford.

During scheduled roadworks on the A51 (after Stafford Services) a defect was identified on the bridge over the M6 and after further checks the motorway is now closed between junctions 14 and 15.

The closure, which is expected to last through the morning rush hour, is already affecting traffic on the motorway as well as motorists travelling on the A500, the A50 and the A34.

The southbound carriageway is also closed between junctions 16 and 14 due to a pre-planned closure at junction 16 which will be removed shortly leaving the carriageway closed between junctions 15 and 14 for the emergency works.
Road users travelling northbound are advised to follow the “Hollow Triangle” diversion symbols exiting the M6 at junction 14 on to the A34 (northbound). Continue along the A34 to the junction with the A500 at Hanford. Take the exit on to the A500 (westbound) and continue to re-join the M6 at junction 15.

Road users travelling southbound are advised to follow the “Hollow Squared” diversion symbols and is opposite of the above.

Drivers are coming off at junction 16 rather than junction 15 for the diversion.
